Provincetown is a town at the tip of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, in the United States. It is a small coastal resort community with a year-round population of 3,664 at the 2020 census, while its summer population can reach as high as 60,000. The town contains a census-designated place of the same name and is often shortened locally to P-town or Ptown. It is known as a vacation destination for its beaches, its harbor, its artists and its tourist industry, and in particular as a destination for LGBTQ visitors. Its harbor is a naturally deep, protected basin that was regarded as the best along the coast, and the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower anchored there in November 1620, where the Mayflower Compact was drawn up and signed. On 14 June 1727 the Precinct of Cape Cod was incorporated as a township, the date from which the town is counted here.
