Ptuj is Slovenia's eighth-largest town, located in northeastern Styria, and is described as the oldest recorded city in Slovenia. It developed from a Roman military fort at a strategically important crossing of the Drava River, along a prehistoric trade route connecting the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic.
