Pu'er is a prefecture-level city in southern Yunnan province, China, governing nine counties, one district and 103 townships. Its urban administrative center is Simao District, formerly the name of the prefecture itself. The city is the only prefecture in Yunnan bordering Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, and by the end of 2024 its resident population was 2.337 million. It is known for Pu'er tea, a type of dark tea that remains central to the local economy after a severe downturn in tea prices in 2007.
