Qalaat al-Madiq is a town in the Hama Governorate of northwestern Syria, on the eastern bank of the Orontes River in the al-Ghab plain northwest of the city of Hama. It stands on the site of the ancient city of Apamea and takes its name from a medieval fortress built there under Muslim rule in the twelfth century. The town and its fortress have remained inhabited into the present, and the site has repeatedly changed hands during Syria recent conflict.
