Santiago de Queretaro, most commonly known simply as Queretaro, is the capital and largest city of the state of Queretaro in central Mexico, part of the Bajio macroregion. It lies 213 kilometers northwest of Mexico City, 63 kilometers southeast of San Miguel de Allende and 200 kilometers south of San Luis Potosi, and serves as the seat of the municipality of Queretaro, which is divided into seven boroughs. UNESCO declared the city's historic center a World Heritage Site in 1996.
