Qyzylorda is a city in south-central Kazakhstan and capital of Qyzylorda Region, briefly the capital of the Kazakh Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic from 1925 to 1927. It grew up around a Kokand fortress on the Syr Darya river and had a population of 242,462 at the 2020 count.
