The capital of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh and its most populous city, serving as headquarters of Raipur district and division since Chhattisgarh was separated from Madhya Pradesh on 1 November 2000. It has grown into a major commercial and industrial hub in central India and was ranked India's sixth-cleanest city in the 2021 Swachh Survekshan survey.
