Rajkot is the fourth-largest city in the western Indian state of Gujarat, after Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara, at the center of the Saurashtra region. A historically important princely state capital where Mahatma Gandhi spent part of his childhood, Rajkot has become a major hub for small-scale engineering, automobile parts and jewelry manufacturing, ranking among India's larger metropolitan economies.
