Ramallah is the administrative capital of Palestine and capital of the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate, in the central West Bank on the Judaean Mountains about 10 kilometers north of Jerusalem at an elevation of 872 meters, with a 2024 municipal population of 43,880. Home to the Mukataa presidential compound, the Palestinian Legislative Council and Palestinian security service headquarters, it has served as a key Palestinian political, cultural and economic center since the 1995 Oslo Accords, following earlier periods of British Mandate, Jordanian and Israeli control.
