Ramat Gan

Western Asia

Ramat Gan is a city in Israel's Tel Aviv District, east of Tel Aviv within the Gush Dan metropolitan area. Founded in 1921 as an agricultural settlement, it has grown into a major economic center with a population of 172,242 in 2024. The city is home to one of the largest diamond exchanges in the world, to Sheba Medical Center, one of the leading hospitals in Israel, and to numerous technology companies. Its economy shifted from farming to commerce and industry over the decades, and an influx of Iraqi Jewish immigrants in the 1950s earned it the nickname Little Baghdad. Ramat Gan today serves as a regional hub for finance, healthcare and technology.
