Rawicz

Rawicz is a town in the Greater Poland Voivodeship in western Poland and the capital of Rawicz County, with 21,398 inhabitants as of 2004. Founded in 1638 by Adam Olbracht Przyjemski as a refuge for Protestants, it became a major weaving center by the 18th century and sits on the trade route between Poznan and Wroclaw, served today by the S5 expressway and the Poznan-Wroclaw railway. The town survived the Thirty Years' War, Swedish occupation, Prussian annexation and wartime devastation, and is known for the protected traditional sausage kielbaska rawicka.
