Rengat

Rengat is a kecamatan, or district, in Riau province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, serving as the administrative seat of Indragiri Hulu Regency. The town lies on the Indragiri River and is home to a WWF-monitored conservation forest under pressure from illegal resource extraction. Its indigenous population is the Talang Mamak people, alongside Malay, Minangkabau, Batak, Chinese Indonesian and Sundanese residents. Rengat played a role in the Indonesian National Revolution, and the surrounding area is known for its kedondong (ambarella) fruit and for lakes, waterfalls and caves that draw tourists.
