The Republic of Noli was an Italian maritime republic centered on the city of Noli, in Liguria, that existed from 1192 to 1797; the area is now part of the province of Savona. To protect itself from Savona and the Marquisate of Finale, Noli allied in 1202 with the Republic of Genoa in what functioned as an equal partnership rather than a subordination. The alliance let the republic grow in standing, and in 1239 Pope Gregory IX established a diocese there.
