Rétság

Retsag is a town in Nograd County in Hungary, about 55 kilometers north of Budapest on the E77 main road, recorded as being owned by the Losonczy family as early as 1393. Ottoman occupation from the mid-sixteenth to mid-seventeenth centuries largely depopulated the area, and the town did not receive official town status until 1989, by the Presidential Council of the Hungarian Peoples Republic. Its Saint Andrew Roman Catholic church dates to 1726, a railway connection was established in 1908, and the town later hosted a military barracks used during the Second World War and the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia.
