Rockhampton is a city on the Fitzroy River in Central Queensland, Australia, about 600 kilometres north of Brisbane and just north of the Tropic of Capricorn, with a population of 79,293 at the 2021 census. Proclaimed in 1858 after Charles and William Archer established a pastoral run there in 1855, it grew on nearby gold discoveries at Canoona and Mount Morgan and is known today as the Beef Capital of Australia.
