Salem is the capital city of the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Marion County, situated in the Willamette Valley alongside the Willamette River. It is Oregon's second largest city by population, with state government as its principal employer alongside a regional agricultural economy, and it hosts Willamette University and Chemeketa Community College.
