Saltillo is the capital and largest city of the northeastern Mexican state of Coahuila and the seat of the municipality of the same name. It had a population of 879,958 at the 2020 census, with a metropolitan population of 1,031,779, making it the largest city in Coahuila and the country's 14th most populous metropolitan area. Saltillo has been rated the most competitive Mexican city with over one million inhabitants on the Urban Competitiveness Index, and 2025 INEGI data ranked it the safest capital city in Mexico.
