San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago

San Fernando, officially the City of San Fernando, is the most populous city and second most populous municipality in Trinidad and Tobago after Chaguanas, known locally as Sando. It occupies 19 square kilometres in the southwest of the island of Trinidad, bounded by the Guaracara River to the north, the Oropouche River to the south, the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway to the east and the Gulf of Paria to the west, and was elevated from a borough to city corporation status on 18 November 1988. It is called Trinidad and Tobago's industrial capital for its proximity to the Pointe-a-Pierre oil refinery and other petrochemical, LNG, iron, steel and aluminium facilities nearby.
