San Pedro, Buenos Aires

San Pedro is a city in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, on the Parana River, and the administrative seat of the San Pedro Partido. It had 47,452 residents at the 2010 census. Formally established as a city on July 25, 1907, it lies in the port and industrial corridor between Buenos Aires and Rosario, and its shores were the site of the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado in 1845. San Pedro is known for fruit growing, particularly oranges and peaches, and holds the official designation of national capital of the Argentine ensaimada, a traditional pastry. It draws weekend visitors from Buenos Aires for its nineteenth century architecture and river based recreation, and it is home to Papel Prensa, Argentina's largest newsprint manufacturer, established there in 1978.
