Santiago de Veraguas is the capital of Veraguas province in central Panama, on the Pan-American Highway roughly midway between Panama City and the Costa Rican border. It serves as the commercial center for the surrounding cattle-ranching and agricultural interior and is one of the older Spanish-founded towns in Panama's interior, with a colonial-era church and central plaza typical of the country's provincial capitals. The city and its surrounding region are known within Panama for a strong tradition of folkloric music and dance.
