Sarospatak

Sarospatak is a town in Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen County in northern Hungary, in the Bodrog river valley about 70 kilometers northeast of Miskolc, with a population of 11,886 at the 2017 census. It was granted town status in 1201 by King Emeric, and its castle is traditionally identified as the birthplace of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. The town became a center of the Protestant Reformation in Hungary, home to one of the first and most important Protestant colleges in the country, founded in 1531, and its residents took an active part in early 18th century independence movements against Habsburg rule.
