Sassari

Sassari is a city on the Italian island of Sardinia, the second largest on the island after Cagliari and capital of its own metropolitan city, with 120,231 residents as of 2026. Settled since Neolithic times but tracing its urban origin to around the turn of the 12th century, it was successively ruled by the Giudicato of Torres, the Pisans, an independent republic allied with Genoa, and the Aragonese and Spanish crowns, each leaving a mark on its architecture; the city today is known for its palazzi, the Fountain of the Rosello and its neoclassical buildings, and holds a substantial art collection.
