Sátoraljaújhely is a border town in northeastern Hungary, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, historically known as the Capital of Zemplén for its former role as seat of Zemplén County. It lies within the Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region, recognized since 2002 as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape, and known for its wine production. The 1920 Treaty of Trianon split the town along the new Hungary-Slovakia border, leaving a portion on the Slovak side as Slovenské Nové Mesto.
