Schmallenberg

Schmallenberg is a town and climatic health resort in the Hochsauerlandkreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and by area it is the third largest town in the state and second largest in the Westphalia region. It received town rights in 1244 and later developed into a textile manufacturing center known as the sock town for the Falke company, and it today comprises a central town, the Bad Fredeburg health resort, and 82 further villages and hamlets. Five of its health resorts and nine of its villages have won gold in the national Our Village Has a Future competition. As of December 31, 2019, the town had 25,146 residents, falling to 24,728 by 2025.
