Shahjahanabad, colloquially known as Old Delhi, is the walled city founded and officially named in 1648 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan when he moved the imperial capital from Agra, and it remained the Mughal capital until British rule took over in 1857. It lies in the Central Delhi district of modern Delhi, India, and holds major landmarks including the Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jama Masjid mosque, and the Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir. Today it is known for its bustling bazaars, street food and mixed Mughal-Indo-Persian and British-influenced architecture.
