Shaoxing is a prefecture-level city on the southern shore of Hangzhou Bay in northeastern Zhejiang province, China, with a population of 5,270,977 recorded at the 2020 census. It is notable as the birthplace of the calligrapher Wang Xizhi and the writer Lu Xun, and is celebrated for Shaoxing wine, preserved mustard greens known as meigan cai, and stinky tofu; Southern Weekly's Cities Comfort Index has ranked it China's most comfortable city for four consecutive years.
