Shijiazhuang is the capital and most populous city of China's Hebei Province, located about 266 kilometers southwest of Beijing east of the Taihang Mountains. Little more than a small village before the arrival of the railway in the early twentieth century, Shijiazhuang grew rapidly into a major rail junction and industrial center, and today administers eight districts, three county-level cities and eleven counties.
