Sidon, also known as Saida, is the third-largest city in Lebanon, located on the Mediterranean coast in the South Governorate, of which it is the capital. Tyre lies about 40 kilometers to its south and the capital Beirut about the same distance to its north. The city has a population of about 80,000 within its limits, while its metropolitan area holds more than a quarter of a million people.
