Sittard is a town in the southeastern Netherlands, in the province of Limburg, and forms part of the merged municipality of Sittard-Geleen. It received town rights in the thirteenth century and preserves a historic center with a network of medieval streets and fortification remnants. The town sits close to the German and Belgian borders in a heavily industrialized part of southern Limburg.
