Straupe is a village in Straupe Parish, Cēsis Municipality, in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. It grew up from the 14th century around Lielstraupe Castle, begun by the von Rosen family in the 13th century, received town privileges in 1374, and took part in the Hanseatic League. Destroyed during the Polish-Swedish War of 1600 to 1629, it lost its trading importance and reverted to village status by the 17th century, and later saw fighting during the 1919 Battle of Cēsis in the Latvian War of Independence. Its population was 475 in 2017.
