Tura is a town in Pest County in central Hungary, in the Galga Valley between the Great Hungarian Plain and the Matra Hills, first recorded as Thwra in a Latin charter of 1220. One of the largest battles of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 was fought there on July 20, 1849, and after Ottoman rule ended in the late seventeenth century the town prospered through agriculture before becoming a railway town in the early twentieth century. The composer Bela Bartok collected more than 150 folk songs in Tura in 1906, and the town is also known for the Schossberger Castle, designed by architect Miklos Ybl and completed in 1883, and for its distinctive embroidery.

When was Tura first mentioned, and is that earliest record reliable?
1220 is the first known mention, but it was probably confused with Nyírtura; the first real mention is from 1394.
The Hungarian Wikipedia article on Tura says its first known mention dates from 1220, when a charter recorded in the Váradi regestrum names it Thwra. The article adds that this record was probably confused with present-day Nyírtura, and that the first real mention of Tura is known from 1394.
