The largest city and capital of Gyeonggi Province, South Korea's most populous province, lying about 30 kilometers south of the national capital Seoul. With a population of 1.2 million it has more inhabitants than the metropolitan city of Ulsan, though it holds a lesser degree of self-governance as a designated special city.
