Swarzedz is a town in the Greater Poland Voivodeship of west-central Poland, within the Poznan metropolitan area, with 29,766 inhabitants in a municipality of 40,166. Settlement there is documented from 1366, and the town received formal rights in 1638 from King Wladyslaw IV Vasa; its name is thought to derive from pre-Christian Slavic worship of the deity Svarog. A railway hub and commercial center, Swarzedz has historically been known for furniture manufacturing and carpentry.
