Sylhet is a metropolitan city in the northeastern region of Bangladesh, serving as administrative center for both Sylhet District and Sylhet Division, situated on the banks of the Surma River. Surrounded by tea gardens in the surrounding hills, Sylhet is a major center of Bangladesh's tea industry and is known for a large diaspora community abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom, that maintains strong ties to the region.
