Szentes is a town in Csongrad County in southeastern Hungary, near the Tisza River, with a 2015 population of 27,898 across 353.25 square kilometers, making it the third most populous municipality in the county after Szeged and Hodmezovasarhely. The surrounding region has been inhabited since prehistoric times, evidenced by the Szegvar-Tuzkoves idol, a rare Neolithic depiction of a male deity found nearby, while the town itself was first documented around 1332.
