Tabriz is a city in the Central District of Tabriz County, capital of East Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran, and one of the country's largest and historically most significant cities. It has served at various points as a capital of Persia and remains a major center of trade, industry and Azerbaijani Turkic culture, prized historically for its position on trade routes linking Iran to the Caucasus and Anatolia.
