Taif is a city and governorate in Mecca Province in Saudi Arabia, located at an elevation of about 1,879 meters in the slopes of the Sarawat Mountains, giving it a notably cooler climate than the surrounding lowlands. Long a summer retreat from the heat of Mecca and Jeddah, Taif is known for its rose gardens, used to produce prized rosewater and rose oil, and serves as a mountain resort and agricultural center for the wider Hejaz region.
