Tamasi

Tamasi is a town in Tolna County, Hungary, about 30 kilometers east of Lake Balaton, founded during the Roman era and long focused on agriculture; its town center includes a Catholic church built on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple. The town endured Turkish occupation from 1525 to 1665, Austrian control from 1848 to 1849, and Soviet-aligned rule from 1945 to 1989, and since then Hungary has functioned as a parliamentary democracy and member of NATO and the European Union. Its population was approximately 9,200 in recent counts, 9,626 at the 2004 census.
