Tangshan

Tangshan is a coastal, industrial prefecture-level city in the northeast of Hebei province, China, facing the Bohai Sea and lying east-southeast of Beijing. Its prefecture population reached about 7.7 million at the 2020 census. Known as the birthplace of China's first standard-gauge railway, railway plant, steam locomotive and cement factory following the start of coal mining there in 1870, the city is remembered as the country's "cradle of industrialization." Tangshan was devastated by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on July 28, 1976, with an official death toll of 255,000, and has since been rebuilt into a major port and industrial center.
