Tarlac City is a first class component city and the capital of Tarlac province, in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines. Founded in 1788 by settlers from Bacolor, Pampanga and designated provincial capital when Tarlac province was created in 1872, it was converted to component city status in 1998 under Republic Act No. 8593 and had a 2024 census population of 401,892 across 274.66 square kilometers, the most populous settlement in the province. The city sits 124 kilometers north of Manila and 58 kilometers north of San Fernando, Pampanga.
