Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum, is the capital city of the Indian state of Kerala. As of 2011 the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation had a population of 957,730 over an area of 214.86 square kilometers, the most populous city in Kerala, while the wider metropolitan area has over 1.7 million inhabitants. It is among the few cities in India serving as a state capital that is also a center for heritage, maritime activity, information technology, space research, defence and biosciences, and one of the few cities in the world with both an international airport and an international seaport close to its center.
