Thyatira

Thyatira was an ancient Greek city in Asia Minor, on the site of the modern Turkish city of Akhisar in Manisa Province, roughly 80 kilometers from the Aegean Sea. It began in the Bronze Age and was substantially developed during the Hellenistic period around 290 BC. Under Roman rule in the first century AD it became known for its dyeing industry and the purple cloth trade, and archaeological evidence shows it supported more professional guilds than any other contemporary city in the Roman province of Asia. Thyatira is also one of the seven churches addressed in the Book of Revelation, where the message to its congregation raises concerns about false teaching and immorality.
