Timika is a chartered city and capital of Mimika Regency on the southern coast of Central Papua, Indonesia, with the surrounding district recording 142,909 residents at the 2020 census. It grew as a hub for mining and services around PT Freeport Indonesia's gold mining operations, which drew a substantial expatriate workforce including roughly 2,000 Americans alongside workers from Japan, Canada, Australia and Germany, and it is served by Mozes Kilangin International Airport.
