Tiszavasvári is a town in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary. It formed in 1941 through the merger of the settlements of Tiszabűd and Szentmihály under the name Bűdszentmihály; the merged communities separated in 1946 before reuniting in 1950, and the town was renamed Tiszavasvári in 1952 in memory of Pál Vasvári, a Hungarian writer who took part in the 1848 revolution. It had 13,473 residents as of 2005 across 126.59 square kilometers.
