Tlaquepaque, officially San Pedro Tlaquepaque, is a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Jalisco, part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area, which holds 5,268,642 people. The municipality was formally established on 25 March 1530 when Nuno de Guzman claimed the kingdom of Tonala and its subject towns, including Tlaquepaque, and the settlement was renamed San Pedro Tlaquepaque in 1548; it lost the San Pedro name from official use in 1917 and recovered the full name in 2011. The 2020 census recorded 650,123 people in the city proper, the third largest in the state after Guadalajara and Zapopan, with 687,127 across the wider municipality, and Tlaquepaque, designated a Pueblo Magico in 2018, is known for pottery, blown glass and mariachi music.
