Torun

Torun is a city on the Vistula River in north-central Poland's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, with a population of 196,935 as of December 2021. First settled in the 8th century and expanded by the Teutonic Knights in 1233, it grew into a major medieval trade center and briefly served as Poland's capital in 1809 during the Napoleonic era; it is the birthplace of astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, born there in 1473, and its medieval Old Town became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and one of the Seven Wonders of Poland in 2007, renowned today for its gingerbread tradition and the Camerimage film festival.
