Trichonium

Southern Europe

Trichonium, also called Trichonion, was a town of ancient Aetolia in Greece from which Lake Trichonis took its name. The 19th century topographer William Martin Leake placed it south of the lake at a site called Gavala. The geographer Strabo describes Trichonium, along with Stratus, as situated in a fertile plain, and several notable natives of the town are recorded in history.
