Tsukuba is a city in Ibaraki Prefecture, in the Kanto region of Japan, about 50 kilometers south of central Tokyo. It is known as the site of Tsukuba Science City, a planned science park developed in the 1960s, and takes its name from Mount Tsukuba in the northern part of the city. As of January 1, 2024 the city had a population of 256,526 across 121,001 households, spread over an area of 283.72 square kilometers.
