Tucson is the county seat of and the most populated city in Pima County, Arizona, and the second-most populous city in the state, with a population of about 542,600 at the 2020 census. Set in the Sonoran Desert and ringed by mountain ranges, Tucson is known for its saguaro cactus-studded landscape, its astronomy research institutions taking advantage of the region's clear desert skies, and a large public university that anchors much of the city's economy.
