Tuxtla Gutierrez, often called simply Tuxtla, is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of Chiapas and the seat of the municipality of the same name, the most developed and populous in the state. It has been one of the fastest-growing cities in Mexico over the past forty years, and functions primarily as a government, commercial and services hub and a transportation gateway for tourists heading elsewhere in Chiapas rather than as a major destination itself.
